Oakleigh, which was begun in 1833 by Mobile merchant, James W. Roper, is included in the American Buildings Survey and the National Register of Historic Places. Mr. Roper was his own architect, and incorporated unique and practical features into the design of his home. It is beautifully furnished with fine period collections of furniture, portraits, silver, china, jewelry, interesting kitchen implements, and toys.
